Second Workshop for Student Services Professionals

The Caribbean Tertiary Level Personnel Association hosted its second workshop for Student Services Professionals at the Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston. The workshop was held on Wednesday, November 26, and focused on the topic “Understanding College/University Students’ Behaviour”. The main presenter was, Dr. Peter Weller, Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Unit at the UWI, Mona Health Centre. Student Services Personnel at the workshop represented tertiary institutions across the island including Sam Sharpe, Mico, Bethlehem Moravian and St. Josephs Teachers Colleges. Also represented were the University of Technology, UWI, Mona; Portmore and Excelsior Community Colleges and Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Director of Student Services at UWI, Mona, Mrs. Thelora Reynolds addressed the group at the start of the workshop and noted the importance of the meeting since student services practitioners need to be continuously updated and informed in their profession if they are to give their best to the students they serve. The Association was formed just over six years ago to bring together persons working in the area of student services. Its goal is to provide training for professionals in the area, as well as conduct research relevant to the needs of tertiary level students in the Caribbean. The Association is an affiliate of the American College Personnel Association.
