Graduate Programme in Coastal Zone Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UWI St. Augustine is inviting applications to its graduate programme in Coastal Zone Engineering. This programme has two offerings: the Post Graduate Diploma in Coastal Zone Processes and the M.Sc. in Coastal Zone Engineering. The Department is also inviting applications from persons wishing to be specially admitted to pursue individual courses. The programme’s objectives include providing advanced and specialized knowledge in the field of coastal zone engineering and management associated with the natural and man-made coastal zone infrastructure. A second objective is equipping graduates with the knowledge of coastal zone processes and techniques required for the assessment of coastal zone systems and their role in anti-hazard design. The Post Graduate Diploma programme and the M.Sc. Coastal Zone Engineering will both begin in September 2004.
Admission requirements for the diploma course include a first degree from an approved university in the Natural Sciences, Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Surveying or Land Information. Prospective applicants may also have an accredited BTECH or HND/Associate Degree in Civil Engineering. Five years related postgraduate experience is also required. Admission requirements for the M.Sc. in Coastal Zone Engineering are a first degree from an approved University in Civil, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering; or a Post Graduate Diploma in Coastal Zone Processes, or in an associated hydraulic engineering discipline. Applicants should also have undergraduate competency in engineering mechanics. Closing date for applications is January 31, 2004.
