Basic Research Skills Training Workshop
The Epidemiology Research Unit of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute (TMRI), UWI in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH), Jamaica and the Caribbean Health Research Council, Trinidad and Tobago will host a Basic Research Skills Training Workshop from June 14-17, 2004. The venue will be Sickle Cell Unit Seminar room on the UWI Mona campus.
The training offered by the workshop sessions will enable participants to identify important reasons for carrying out research and choose relevant and feasible topics for research; define a research question and choose the study design most appropriate to meet the given objectives; calculate the sample size and sample subjects for a research study; define measurements; summarise and present basic results of an investigation; design data collection instruments correctly; identify ethical and scientific standards to be met when conducting research; and write a research protocol. A total of 25 places are available and participants will be accepted on a "first come, first served" basis. Cost of attending the workshop is J$5000.00.
