Lymelight
Myrna Hague, arguably Jamaica’s best and most accomplished jazz singer, will perform at “Lymelight” on Tuesday, January 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts. “Lymelight”, the Centre’s annual fundraising concert, presented in association with its affiliated Student Societies, is a single staging show aimed at offsetting the cost of the theatre’s new Lighting Board. Myrna Hague is a first class honours graduate of the music programme and is now a
M. Phil candidate at UWI, Mona. She is Deputy Director of the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival, a soloist with the Jamaica Big Band and Jazz Mobile, and also Voice Tutor at the Edna Manley College, School of Music. She has performed in various countries including the United Kingdom, USA, and extensively in Italy.
Other performances at “Lymelight” this year will be presented by the Centre’s artistic Student Societies: the University Singers, Panoridim Steel Orchestra, Dramatic Arts Society, Dance Society, Chorale and Camera Club. Tickets are available at the Philip Sherlock Centre at $500 for adults and $300 for students with identification cards.
Lymelight will take the format of a “lyme” before the concert and during intermission with the accompaniment of the University Panoridim Steel Orchestra. Hors d’oeuvres will also be served. Lymelight promises to be a refreshing kaleidoscope of the tradition of excellent cultural and artistic expression for which Myrna Hague and the Centre’s Student Societies are reknown.
