Counselling Conference

The International Association for Counselling (IAC) will host a Conference from April 24 to 27 in Jamaica. The conference, to be held at the Runaway Bay HEART Hotel will be held under the theme Crossing Boundaries in Counselling: Global Issues – Local Context. The theme will provide participants with an opportunity to think globally about systemic challenges and then proceed to act locally to eradicate them. The conference’s local organizing committee includes staff members of the Counselling Services at UWI Mona, Dr. Angela Gordon Stair, Head, University Counselling Services; and Ms. Sharon Williams-Brown, Counsellor; as well as Ms. Joyce Thompson, retired Counsellor and Fellow of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Presentations will come from several Jamaican and Caribbean professionals including Dr. Peter Weller, Clinical Psychologist, University Counselling Services and Dr. Audrey M. Pottinger, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Department of Child Health, UWI, Mona. IAC is an international non-governmental organization, registered as a charity in Belgium. It has consultative status with the United Nations, UNICEF, UNESCO, ILO, and the Council of Europe. Since its inception in 1996, the association has played a significant role in the development of counselling services in many parts of the world. The conference will be a forum of ideas for international collaboration among counsellors and related professionals to address global cultural, economic and social challenges.
