At the recently held 45th Annual General Meeting of the UWI (Mona) & Community Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. it was reported that 2003 was another profitable year for the Credit Union and its members. Key performance indicators showed share capital moving by 24.38% from 187.56M in 2002 to $233.30M in 2003, a growth of $45.74M. Loan portfolio continued to show consistent and robust growth in 2003, an increase of 39.15% for the period. At December 2003, the loan portforlio valued $427.17M. The bulk of the Credit Union’s income (approximately 66%) came from loans granted even though interest rates decreased by 6% over the past five years. The members were encouraged at the meeting to seek loans from the Credit Union first as a means of saving money and increasing disposable income.
