Fundamentals of English Course
The Human Resources Management Division, UWI Mona will be conducting a course in Fundamentals of English. The course will be for nine (9) weeks from Tuesday, June 1 to Friday, July 30, 2004, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (one day per week for nine weeks for each participant) from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day. The venue will be the Social Welfare Training Centre. Target groups include secretaries at and above the level of Senior Secretary; Administrative Assistants at and above Grade 1 and Office Managers and other staff whose functions include the writing of minutes and/or reports. The course content includes the Foundation of English Speech, Phrases and Clauses, Verb Problems, Pronoun Problems, Problems with Adjectives and adverbs, Common Errors in Grammar, Punctuation, Business Letters and Essay Writing. The course objective is to develop proficiency in the use of English Language, specifically in pronunciation, writing and speaking. The facilitator will be Dr. Sheila Carter, former Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities and Education. The course is a pre-requisite for a Minute Taking and Report Writing Course which will be offered in the next academic year to the target group mentioned above.
