DLIS Course - Macromedia Authorware: An Introductory Workshop

The Department of Library and Information Studies will host the following two courses during the summer: Macromedia Authorware: An Introductory Workshop from June 29 to July 1 and Introduction to Greenstone Digital Library Software from July 19 to 23.
Macromedia Authorware: An Introductory Workshop will be taught by Mr. Ramnauth Sookraj. This hands on introductory workshop will introduce participants to, the basics of interactive multimedia planning and design using Macromedia Authorware; digitizing sound, graphics and video for incorporation into a multimedia presentation; creating interactive quizzes with a range of interaction styles; using a variety of Authorware features including transitions, text styles, inspectors and graphics tools; and packaging and distributing multimedia piece using optical storage media.
The course Introduction to Greenstone Digital Library Software will be taught by Professor Fay Durrant. This five-day workshop will provide an initial overview of digital library software applications, and the features of the Greenstone Digital Library Software. The main thrust of the workshop will be hands-on training in developing a digital collection. Sessions will include exercises in using the searching and browsing structures of demonstration collections in Greenstone; accessing the user interface; creating new collections; Inserting metadata; Adding search indexes; and exporting collections to a CD-ROM. The courses will cost J$10,000 each and both will be held in the DLIS Computer Lab. For further information contact the department at 927 2944.
