“Caribbean Regional Conference on Philanthropy”
A number of interesting persons have agreed to make presentations at first Caribbean Conference on Philanthropy, on September 26-29, 2004 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. The conference is being planned by The University of the West Indies Development and Endowment Fund (the UWI Fund) in collaboration with the National Center for Black Philanthropy Incorporated (Washington D.C., USA). The theme of the conference is “The Relevance of Philanthropy in Developing Nations” and it will serve to cultivate a culture of philanthropy, an essential requirement in the face of global challenges.
Speakers at the conference will include H.E. Sue Cobb, US Ambassador to Jamaica; Dr. Joan Neil from the OAS; the Honourable David Thompson, Barbadian Minister of Parliament and former Finance Minister; Mr. Francis Lewis, Executive Director, Marketing for First Caribbean International Bank in Barbados and Mr. Ulric Warner Manager of Strategy and Administration at Phoenix Park Gas Processors in Trinidad. The conference will commence on Sunday, September 26 with a Pre Conference Endowment Training Seminar. The opening ceremony will take place in the evening, followed by a cocktail reception. Day two and three will feature an array of presentations in four concurrent sessions. These presentations will fall under the themes: The Relevance of Philanthropy in Developing Nations and Corporate Social Responsibility among others. Day two will be completed by a cultural concert at Emancipation Park and day three will conclude with a Gala Dinner at the Pegasus Hotel. The last day September 29, will be designated tour day and Great Vacations will provide an array of tours, at special rates for conference participants who wish to experience the various attractions of Jamaica. The conference registration fee is US$ 200. 00 dollars and it is open to the public. Various sponsorship categories are available.
