The UWI’s HIV/AIDS Response Programme
The University of the West Indies HIV/AIDS Response Programme (UWI HARP) has donated a total of 63 titles on or related to HIV/AIDS to the UWI Main Library (Mona). A handover ceremony was held at the Library on August 12, 2004 to mark the donation of these titles which span a range of disciplines and subjects including Ethics and Law, Communication, Public Health, HIV Programme Evaluation and Behaviour Change, among others.
This initiative has been supported under the European Union/CARICOM funded project - 'Strengthening the Institutional Response to HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in the Caribbean (SIRHASC).
Professor Brendan Bain, Lead Coordinator of UWI HARP noted that the donation was a part of a multi-disciplinary curriculum development programme which seeks to sensitize students and staff in an effort to
strengthen the base for a community response to the epidemic. Deputy Librarian, Mrs. Norma Amenu-Kpodo and Acquisitions Librarian Mrs. Joan Vacianna expressed appreciation on behalf of the library for the donation of books. A donation of 12 titles has also been made to the library of the Masters in Public Health programme of the Department of Community Health & Psychiatry, Faculty of Medical Sciences.
