Orientation on Monday, August 23
Orientation for New students begin in earnest on Monday August 23, at 9:00 a.m. with the Welcome & Introduction from Acting Director of Student Services, Horton Dolphin and President, Guild of Students Damion Crawford. This will be followed by the presentation, The Founders of the University of the West Indies – A Brief History and a video presentation on the UWI. At 9:45 there will also be a presentation on ‘How to Make the Most of the University’. The presenter will be Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Willard Pinnock Senior. This will be followed by a session on Student Financing and Budgeting with Divisional Manager, Customer Service, Treasury and Investment Management, Selvin Goldson. The venue for these activities will be the Assembly Hall.
In the afternoon at 12:20 there will be a Special Session for Commuting Students in the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre. The presenters will include Student Services Personnel, Commuting Student Advisors, Members of the Counselling Unit and Members of the Guild of Students. A brown bag lunch will be served.
This will be followed at 2:00 p.m. with the presentation 'Wellness – A Choice to Make: Your Health Centre and You' at the Health Centre for the Commuting and Resident Students of Rex Nettleford Hall. This same presentation will be repeated at 3:00 p.m. for commuting and residents students of Taylor Hall. The Presenters will be the Director, Health Services, Dr. Blossom Anglin-Brown and the Health Centre team. Concurrent sessions also occurring at 3:00 p.m. include tours of the campus and of the Office of Placement and Career Services.
