Our internationally accredited MBA programme will equip you with the critical solution oriented skills needed to excel in a globally competitive business environment. The MBA targets management professionals who are aspiring to higher executive management roles and/or entrepreneurship. The programme provides a sound general management base upon which students build specialized functional skills and knowledge. The programme is structured to provide incremental exposure to core courses and concentrations in: Marketing, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Management Information Systems, Banking and Finance, and Sports Management. Students may also choose the General Management concentration which provides exposure to a combination of functional areas.

The Master in Business Management will emphasize both core business concepts and practical dimensions of business management. This will be reinforced with a strong experiential learning approach. Students will self-select into either an entrepreneurial or an internship stream which has been modeled from programmes offered in some of the top international universities. The MBM is a degree designed specifically for students who want to pursue a Masters degree in a full-time programme, and who are interested in entrepreneurship activities or in gaining some directed work experience.

Master of Science

This programme is designed to produce accounting thinkers, researchers and practitioners who can meet the demands of an increasingly complex and internationally competitive business environment in keeping with international developments in accounting education in recent years. The programme continues to be one of the sources for the provision of Chartered Accountants in Jamaica and the degree is accepted as the final professional examination for admission to the institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica.

The Master of Science in Computer Based Management Information Systems was developed in response to the rapidly growing demand for a new type of graduate student with an in-depth knowledge in management information systems and computer science.

This demand arises from the increased of use of computer-based systems both in the financial and retail sectors, as well as Government sectors. Until now, this demand has been filled by graduates either in Management Studies, or in Computer Sciences, at the least as far as junior positions are concerned.

This programme will not only equip Jamaican nationals to fill these positions, but will also educate a new generation of Information Systems Analysts and Managers who will spearhead the thrust by Jamaican firms to establish a sustainable competitive position on the critically important information service sector.

This programme is designed to meet the current demands of the economic marketplace and provide participants with rigorous training to help develop proficiencies to find solutions to real-life financial situations. The focus of the MSc Corporate Finance is to provide technical training to persons who are interested in pursuing a career in the financial sector. It will provide rigorous technical academic training to persons who wish to have a career as a trader, financial analyst, corporate banker, risk analyst among others. It is particularly suited to graduates seeking to work in the areas of: corporate management, international financial management, investment services, brokerage, insurance, and commercial and investment banking. The programme covers the three key areas of finance: financial markets, financial institutions, and investments.

Offered by The Mona School of Business and Management in conjunction with the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the West Indies, the MSc. ERM degree programme is designed to address the demand in the financial services and other industries for modern risk management talent. Risk professionals require a set of integrated skills in risk modelling and management of the risks associated with assets/liabilities of their business operations. The programme is designed to produce graduates proficient in contemporary risk analysis techniques and management practices to address complex risk issues.

As Jamaica and the wider Caribbean prepare to compete in the new global economy of services and knowledge, it is imperative that they have sufficient human resources to compete in a global marketplace. The MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme is geared towards developing a cadre of professionals capable of executing and managing efficient operations in goods and services across the supply chain. The programme will cover principles and tools that can be employed to help to achieve these outcomes; especially in the context of the peculiarities of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Areas of focus in this programme include: logistics management strategy, operations management and business analytics and inventory management.

The MSc. Marketing and Data Analytics is aimed at producing marketing professionals who are able to enhance their marketing decisions based on analytics and quantitative metrics. The programme is targeted at graduates from the general business and management-related discipline.

The programme is aimed at producing marketing professionals who are able to make marketing decisions based on quantitative analysis. Participants will be provided with a strong grounding in the analytical tools needed to flourish in today’s rapidly evolving, information-driven business environment.

The Master in National Security and Strategic Studies serves, not only to complement the professional training of the senior managers of the security sector, but in many instances, provides them with the opportunity of exposure to the rigours of Graduate Studies in a field very applicable to their day to day activities. The educational emphasis is placed on a policy oriented approach, as well as on critical examination of the theories and concepts that have influenced regional strategic, defence and anti-crime policies. Particular attention is paid to emerging strategic trends that pose long-term challenges to Caribbean security as a region and individual countries, and raise complex trade-offs for policy makers.

The MSc. in Procurement Management will provide rigorous training in the area of procurement, an important but understudied area in the management discipline. Students who take this programme will gain a comprehensive appreciation of the regulatory obligations, international agreements and reporting techniques for procurement operations.  The programme will cover issues dealing with: procurement and contract administration, inventory management, government contracts, ethics and social responsibility.

The service sector is an important component of any country’s economy. It makes a direct and significant contribution to GDP and provides crucial inputs for the rest of the economy. Having highly qualified human resources in this sector will be essential to drive the transformation of the industry. MSBM’s MSc. Service and Retail Management programme is aimed at providing critical capacity development in areas that are deemed to be necessary for competing in the new services and knowledge driven economy. The programme will train service managers to integrate innovative practices and processes into their operations, designed to increase the performance of organizations and develop service metrics based on their needs. It will prepare professionals for senior-level positions in both the services and the retail sectors. The programme incorporates classes in financial and managerial accounting and quantitative methods, along with courses specific to the services and retail sectors.

The Master of Science in Taxation is designed to create a core of tax professionals in the Caribbean with the expertise to help businesses navigate the technical issues of tax planning, policy and accounting. The programme provides an extensive overview of theoretical, technical, functional and managerial aspects of taxation, and contemporary issues impacting the discipline. It is designed to appeal to those students who are seeking to pursue a specialisation in the area of taxation. The content of the programme is also ideally suited for practitioners, from both the private and public sectors, who are seeking to upgrade their skills and expand their knowledge base in taxation.

DBA

The Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) programme offers senior executives a professional doctorate equivalent to a Doctor of Philosophy degree. It differs in the level of business experience required for entry, the emphasis on applied versus pure research, and the greater focus on contributing to management practice than on the theoretical advancement of a discipline.

Diploma

This Programme is designed to develop a range of cognitive skills, for middle management professionals who wish to acquire a Diploma only. It seeks also to develop foundation level competencies in specific core subjects necessary to ensure a high level of performance in the MBA programme. Additionally it provides an opportunity to assess applicants whose business and life experiences attest to their maturity and intellectual capacity to complete higher levels of study.
