HRMAJ, MSBM sign human-resource MOU

The Human Resource Management Association of Jamaica (HRMAJ) and the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) have entered into a partnership through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last week, which will see collaboration on the certification of professional-development courses that are aligned to internationally recognised standards. Collaboration will also relate to research in human resource (HR) management.

The MOU was signed on February 28, at the MSBM, The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. The HRMAJ and The UWI have long been in a mutually supporting relationship for more than two decades.

Through its partnership with international HR-development partners, HRMAJ will help ensure that graduates of The UWI’s HR management programmes are prepared for certification examinations of the United States-based Society for Human Resource Management. In addition, it will see MSBM supporting the HRMAJ in the development and delivery of certification programmes in the field of HR management.

Data-driven decisions

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr David McBean, executive director, MSBM, said the MOU should result in more data-driven decisions and the formulation of policies aimed at impacting how Jamaica develops laws, regulations and practices in the area of HR.

“Mona School of Business and Management is a bridge to the business community, and, in this context, we are seeking to ensure that our students and our research are relevant and applicable to the Jamaican human-resource ecosystem, to facilitate change in the way we conduct business,” McBean said.

As a part of the MOU, an annual research agenda will be developed to meet the practical HR-related needs of Jamaican organisations and their HR management practitioners in areas such as best-fit recruitment selection and on-boarding, workforce competitiveness and productivity, compensation, reward and recognition, talent management, succession planning, and workplace health and safety.
