Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) recently sent a five-member team to tour established business schools in the United States, which was aimed at building technical and qualitative networking opportunities.
The five-day tour, which ran from September 1 - 5, was facilitated by the Department of State-fundedVoluntary Visitors (VOLVIS) Programme and allowed MSBM to carry out a field analysis of distinguished universities in the US.
The VOLVIS Programme, administered through the US Embassy's Public Affairs section, consists of a series of customised, short-term professional exchanges that promote current and emerging foreign/policy priorities. The programme allowed MSBM to gain significant exposure to best practices, in pursuit of its vision "to become the premier business school in the region."
The MSBM team included Executive Director Professor Densil Williams; Deputy Executive Director Dr Lila Rao Graham; Patricia Lothian, director of finance and dministration; Janice Henlin, director of marketing; and Dr William Lawrence, director of the Professional Services Unit.
They tour covered notable business schools, including American University, Washington DC; The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; and the NYU - Stern Business School.
The team conducted field analysis, exploring the areas of marketing/alumni relations; fundraising and financing arrangements; consultancy and executive Education; general administration and management; and research and innovation.
The US Embassy's support to MSBM came at a critical stage, given the current global economic climate. The institution is anticipated to play a key role in building a strong Jamaican economy, as it serves as a centre of thought, research, training and analysis, and will influence local and regional initiatives to facilitate private sector-led growth.
