(Kingston, Jamaica) — At a time when Caribbean economies are navigating rapid change, digital disruption, and increasing global competition, the Mona School of Business & Management (MSBM) has reaffirmed its role as a key driver of regional leadership and applied business excellence through its 2026 Graduate Awards Ceremony, held at the University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters.

More than a celebration of academic success, the ceremony highlighted MSBM’s growing impact in shaping professionals who are equipped to lead, innovate, and deliver measurable results across the Caribbean and beyond. Graduates were recognised not only for high academic performance, but for field projects addressing real-world organisational, financial, and economic challenges.

Developing Leaders for a Complex Business Environment

In welcoming remarks, Dr. David McBean, Executive Director of MSBM, underscored the School’s focus on producing graduates who combine rigorous scholarship with practical insight.

“This ceremony represents the outcomes of intentional, applied learning,” Dr. McBean said. “Our graduates leave MSBM prepared to think critically, act strategically, and lead responsibly in increasingly complex business environments.”

The programme was led by Dr. Indianna Minto-Coy, Deputy Executive Director for Graduate Programmes, and included greetings from senior UWI leadership and distinguished alumni, reinforcing the strong institutional and professional network that underpins the MSBM experience.

Industry Perspective on Leadership and Lifelong Learning

Delivering the feature address, Meghon Miller-Brown, President of Guardian Life Limited and MSBM alum, challenged graduates to remain adaptable and committed to continuous learning as a cornerstone of effective leadership. Her participation reflected MSBM’s emphasis on bridging academic theory with executive-level practice and industry relevance.

The ceremony also benefited from the participation of corporate partners such as SEPROD, whose engagement underscored the value of industry-academic collaboration in strengthening applied research and workforce readiness. Members of the MSBM Board, adjunct faculty, and distinguished alumni were also in attendance, reinforcing the strong professional network that supports the School’s mission.

Recognising Academic Excellence and Applied Impact

Awards were presented across MSBM’s graduate programmes, including honours for Distinction, Most Outstanding Performance by Programme, Excellence in MBA Concentrations, and Best Final Projects. A total of 39 graduates achieved Distinction, earning GPAs of 3.70 or above.

The Executive Director’s Award for Most Outstanding Academic Achievement, the ceremony’s highest honour, was presented to Treshawna Marie Douglas, MSc Corporate Finance graduate, in recognition of her exceptional academic performance and highest overall GPA.

In her response on behalf of awardees, Douglas encouraged professionals to pursue postgraduate study with confidence, noting that commitment and adaptability make advanced education achievable at any stage of life.

Strengthening the Region’s Business and Leadership Capacity

The ceremony also spotlighted industry-linked research projects supported by corporate partners, including SEPROD, underscoring MSBM’s commitment to experiential learning and solutions-oriented scholarship.

As MSBM continues to expand its graduate programmes, executive education, and consulting services, the 2026 Graduate Awards Ceremony served as a clear statement of the School’s mission: developing leaders who drive organisational performance, economic growth, and regional transformation.
