MSBM Students head to Big Apple for Ernst & Young Internship

Four students of Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) were selected to participate in the 2015 Ernst & Young Summer Internship Programme in New York. The students were selected based on their stellar performance at Ernst & Young Jamaica during the internship segment of the The UWI Accounting Co-op Programme. Ernst &Young is one of the "Big Four" audit firms and is the third largest professional services firm in the world.<--break->

The four MSBM students selected for the coveted month-long internship are Kerry-Ann Reid, Ronique Johnson, Davian Samuels who are pursuing BSc Accounting degrees, and Jody-Ann Lawrence who is pursuing an MSc Accounting degree.

They will join some of the world’s top students as they work in Taxation department of the Ernst &Young New York office. The programme exposes high performing students from around the world to the behind-the-scenes processes of the international financial giant. The Interns will get hands on experience at the highest level of professional service.

The students have been afforded this opportunity through their participation in the UWI Accounting Co-op Programme which has been underway since 2013. The UWI programme responds to the demand for experienced graduates, by aligning students with partner companies such as Ernst & Young, Price Waterhouse Coppers (PWC), and Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ). Participants in the local Co-op programme gain invaluable work experience as well as the opportunity to earn as they study. The programme represents a paradigm shift as the UWI reinforces its commitment to producing work ready graduates by creating platforms for “on the job training”. Participating students gain up to 12 months of work experience by the time they complete their undergraduate degrees.
