Ralph Thomas has been named as Jamaica's new ambassador to the People's Republic of China, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
He succeeds Ambassador Courtenay Rattray who has assumed duties as Jamaica's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
Thomas is a central banker with 22 years of experience at Bank of New York and four years at the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ).
He is presently a senior teaching fellow of the Mona School of Business and Management at the University of the West Indies. He sits on the boards of Urban Development Corporation; the National Insurance Fund and the Jamaica Financial Services Authority, as well as the Micro Investment Development Agency, which he chairs.
The ambassador-designate takes up his posting in Beijing in mid-July.
