Professor McCloud’s academic path reflects excellence, intellectual rigour, and an unwavering commitment to advancing economic thought. A proud graduate of UWI Mona, she earned both her BSc and MPhil in Mathematics before pursuing her PhD in Economics at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton.

Since joining UWI in 2008, she has dedicated nearly two decades to teaching, research, and institutional leadership, rising through the academic ranks with distinction. Her leadership was especially evident during her tenure as Head of the Department of Economics (2019–2023), where she contributed significantly to the department’s growth and academic direction.

A Leader in Econometrics and Economic Research

Now Professor of Applied Econometrics, Professor McCloud is widely recognised as a leading figure in Caribbean economic research and quantitative analysis. Her research spans key areas including:

Professor McCloud’s influence extends far beyond the classroom. She has held prestigious international appointments, including serving as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Cornell University, and has conducted research at institutions across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Her expertise is also valued at the highest levels of national policymaking. She serves as a member of the Bank of Jamaica’s Monetary Policy Committee, contributing to decisions shaping the country’s economic stability and growth. Additionally, she has served on the Board of the Planning Institute of Jamaica, reinforcing her role as a bridge between academic research and public policy.

Building Institutions, Shaping Conversations

Beyond her research and teaching, Professor McCloud has demonstrated visionary leadership in building intellectual infrastructure for the region.

She is a co-founder of the Jamaican Economy Panel (JEP), an initiative that brings together experts to examine pressing socio-economic issues and guide public discourse on development challenges in Jamaica.

She also played a central role in the establishment of the Fiscal Research Centre (FRC) at UWI Mona, a landmark initiative advancing public finance research, policy innovation, and evidence-based decision-making in the Caribbean.
