Higher Educational Management

Programme Overview

The management of higher education is facing new challenges as tertiary institutions seek to increase the number of persons who are able to access further education.  This has resulted in new higher or tertiary educational institutions being established and those already established being expanded.

The expansion in tertiary and higher educational institutions requires competent administration to provide leadership at senior and middle management levels to ensure performance that meets the needs of the region and  standards that  arecomparable to our counterparts in the developed countries.  The skills and competencies required to operate business and industry are now required in a similar fashion to operate tertiary and higher education institutions.  Further, higher educational institutions, especially in Jamaica, are being told that they must earn their way with limited government support. This means that leaders and managers have to develop the necessary business acumen to plan and operate in a business atmosphere.

The programme is designed to meet the needs of incumbent senior managers or students seeking careers in management in colleges and universities by providing them with the relevant knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.
