UWI Pelican "Parching" the tracks to London Olympics 2012

Dubbed the 'dark horse' of hurdles, Hansle Parchment was much in the spot light over the weekend as he took the 110 meter hurdles to book his spot on the Jamaica Olympic Team for London 2012. Parchment, dismissed a fine field of athletes including Andrew Riley and Dwight Phillips to snatch top honors on the line with a personal best of 13.18 seconds to meet the Olympics 'A' standard time at the 2012 staging of the JAAA Jamaica Senior National Championship.

The current World University games 110 meters hurdles champion and Gibson Relay Record Holder continues to make a statement on the track and field circuit and goes through the motions like any other athlete. "I felt nervous but i felt ready for the competition. I knew the competitors would bring a challenge i wasn't focused on that though. I was thinking about executing to the best of my abilities and try to come out on top."

Parchment, a scholarship recipient, is the only UWI athlete to qualify to represent Jamaica in the Olympics since 1964; is humbly elated at accomplishing this feat. It is every athlete's dream to qualify to participate in the Olympics Parchment noted: "I was happy, was disappointed with how I came out the blocks but I'm happy I made the national team. This is just another step forward..." Parchment is the third fastest Jamaican of all times in the event and is ranked number nine on the world stage.

The name Hansle Parchment is becoming a household name in the sprint hurdles arena and greater things are in store for this reserved yet bold and talented young man. We know that he will represent Jamaica well and will continue to make us proud.
