UWI Pelican Girls thrashed St. Thomas FC in JFF/Sherwin Williams League

The University of the West Indies female football team took St. Thomas FC to school over the weekend in the JFF/Sherwin Williams Female Football League. The UWI Pelicans taught the visitors a lesson or two in the game of football much to the delight of the home crowd. The home team proved that they had the right formula on the day, as their combination of skills and tactics proved futile for the visitors who were sent home with a 6-3 package.

In a game that turned out not to be for the faint of heart the UWI got off to a quick start, scoring in the 7th minute of play courtesy of Sherona Forrester, and 10 minutes later it was 2-0, Forrester again on the score sheet. Before the cheers had died down however St Thomas were back in it and the half finished 2-1.

The second half had barely started before Forrester was again on the score sheet with the UWI Pelicans seemingly cruising at 3-1 with 46minutes played. The UWI Pelicans were made to pay for their complacency and the score was tied at 3-3 soon after. Undaunted and driven by a desire to be in the semi-finals, the ladies rallied, first through Ornella Gray and then skipper Trudi- Ann Young, before Forrester again bagged a fourth to send the home crowd in frenzy.

The victory now means that the UWI Pelicans have booked their spot in the semi-finals where they will face Barbican FC this Saturday in the first leg of the Semi-Finals encounter here at the UWI Bowl in their quest for the Companionship trophy.
