1A: THEORY CLASSES FOR MODULE NO.1

1A .1 Lecture # 1.
Basic concepts of geology and geomorphology as relevant to the study of geohazards.
AIM:
Recapitulation of ideas introduced in the introductory geology/geography courses. Plate tectonics- the concept, plates and plate boundaries, plate tectonics and rock cycle, plate tectonics and landforms, neotectonics/active tectonics.)

1A .2 Lecture #2 and 3. Tectonics, geology, geomorphology, and active processes in the Caribbean.
AIM:
Define the Caribbean plate, introduce the tectonic framework of the Caribbean, plate boundaries, active processes, and basic geology and major landforms associated with igneous, sedimentary (clastic, carbonate, especially karst, surficial, reefs), and metamorphic (especially cataclastic rocks) environments.)

1A.3 Lecture #4. Hazards, risks and disasters.
AIM:
Introduce the concepts, terminology, with Caribbean examples leading to defining acceptable risk, concepts of frequency-magnitude relationship and recurrence interval.
