Linguistics is the study of one of the most important human characteristics: language. It is an interdisciplinary field that involves the integration of the natural sciences, the medical sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities.
Studying linguistics is not a matter of learning lots of different languages, but rather it is the study of how language is structured and used.
Our 7 faculties and 12 professional schools offer more than 200 programmes to some 18,000 graduate, undergraduate and continuing studies students.
The UWI, Mona ranks first in Jamaica among accredited tertiary-level programmes. In 2012, the University was again one of Jamaica’s Top 100 Employers.
