Course Description

This course is a survey of some aspects of the law and legal system of Jamaica as it relates to the everyday conduct of business. As a foundation law course for business students, it introduces them to the major sources of law and deals with the main legal principles concerning the formation and breach of contracts. It also introduces the remedies for contractual breach and explains the agency principle.

The objectives of the course are:

  • To familiarise the student with the framework in which the law operates and develops
  • To provide the student with basic knowledge of some fundamental legal principles governing or affecting business and business relationships
  • To introduce students to the process of legal analysis and reasoning.
