The UWI is the premier destination for education in
Tourism & Hospitality
in the Caribbean region. Four distinctive educational programmes
bring together key elements of modern tourism and hospitality
management into a first world training programme that will
produce graduates capable of managing any department in
a tourism destination’s facility. The programmes
offer significant advantages to students as they combine
social, cultural, economic and technological elements of
the challenging tourism landscape using delivery modes
that suit students’ workstyle and lifestyle.
The programmes aim to provide students with key principles
of tourism and hospitality, covering a breadth of knowledge
in key management skills, including leadership and self
management. On completion of these programmes participants
will be able to:
- Work as effective team players in the tourism and hospitality industry.
- Demonstrate proficiency in tourism management skills and leadership skills
Graduates from the undergraduate programmes are qualitatively different from graduates of other institutions. Graduates from the hospitality management program will graduate with expertise in the area of all-inclusive management. Graduates from the tourism management program exit that programme with expertise in cultural tourism. These programmes benefits students and the region by offering courses that focus on the destination, the image, the environment and community tourism.
It is important to note that the focus on these areas does not preclude the exposure to the broad body of tourism knowledge. The intent is however, to ensure that students emerging from these programmes will be more marketable and of greater value to the region.
