Indicators of Oral Health in Mexican Adults Aged 18 Years and Older Who Demanded Oral Health Services: Objectives, Methodological Aspects and Characteristics of the Participants

Synopsis: 
This study estimated the prevalence of various oral health indicators among patients from a public university in Mexico. Roughly half of the subjects (54.5%) reported using any type of oral health service within the past 12 months. “Good/very good” oral health was reported by 38.1%. Functional dentition was observed on 44.5% and 8.2% were edentulous. The self-reported of tooth loss had a prevalence of 62.2%. Toothbrushing "two or more times per day" was reported by 76.4%.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explain the objectives, methodology and basic results of a study of oral health in adults who demanded services from dental clinics at a public university in Mexico.

Salivary Parameters (Salivary Flow, pH and Buffering Capacity) in Stimulated Saliva of Mexican Elders 60 Years Old and Older

Chewing-stimulated saliva (paraffin method) was collected and the salivary flow rate, pH and buffer capacity were measured in a group of Mexican elders. We found that salivary parameters varied in relation to selected socio-economic, clinical and behavioural variables.

Sociodemographic, Socio-economic, Clinical and Behavioural Factors Modifying Experience and Prevalence of Dental Caries in the Permanent Dentition

Synopsis: 
Dental caries is a public dental health problem worldwide. In this study, factors associated with caries were older age, female gender, those from large families, mothers with positive dental attitude, presence of plaque, and whether or not schoolchildren received dental care.

Objective: To identify the sociodemographic, socio-economic, clinical and behavioural factors that modify the experience of decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) and caries prevalence in Nicaraguan children 9−12 years old.
