Staff Development
The IDU provides various training opportunities for faculty to enhance their teaching and create effective learning environments for their students. The Unit also offers faculty and departmental consultations to assist in meeting specific needs of each faculty or department.
You can help us improve on these offerings by completing this Needs Assessment Questionnaire and sending it back to us. We would like to hear from you.
The workshops, seminars and courses cover a wide range of topics and include the following:
Certificate in University Teaching - which is designed to provide the academic staff with the opportunity to develop teaching skills in keeping with the learner centred paradigm of the UWI, and in particular, to expose academic staff who may not have had any formal teacher training to effective teaching skills for adult learning and teaching. Registration forms available HERE.
Annual Teaching Skills Workshop - which is offered in January of each year with the specific objectives of increasing awareness of how students learn and to explore strategies and techniques to help students learn effectively.
Course Design Workshop - A four-module workshop offered in the first semester and is designed to help participants develop objectives and learning tasks for their areas of discipline. Online meetings for discussions on this course are also available.
In recent times the UWI has focused on improving its assessment methods and in meeting that mandate the IDU offers in the second semester a five-module workshop which examines some issues and challenges of assessment at the UWI.
