The UWI Wellness programme

Wellness is an on-going lifestyle approach to personal excellence. It is a deliberate, conscious decision to pursue optimal well-being. Wellness encompasses the body, mind and spirit. It is a positive choice, pursued because it is judged to be a richer way to be alive.

Wellness promotes individual well-being through a balance in the following areas:

  • Social - Cultural - Physical
  • Emotional - Intellectual - Life Planning
  • Environmental - Spiritual

The University Health Centre is committed to the development of a wellness programme for staff and students on the Mona Campus. The overall objective of the programme is to build a supportive environment for wellness on the Mona Campus.
Specifically, the programme aims to:

  • provide high quality health care and patient management services to the student and staff population
  • develop a health promotion and health education programmes for communicable and non-communicable diseases and mental health
  • identify and access the requisite resources to effectively execute the programme
  • promote awareness of wellness and foster the development of a ‘wellness culture’ on the Mona Campus
  • promote inter-sectoral collaboration among stakeholder agencies or groups internal and external to UWI to support the wellness programme.
