Much of the funding for the SHP has
been obtained through a number of grants from the University of
the West Indies, including the Research and Publications Grant and
the Post Graduate Fund. These have greatly facilitated the SHP’s
publication programme.
The SHP relies on funding from annual subscription fees and proceeds
from the sale of its publications to carry out its work.
From time to time, individuals have donated money grants to the
SHP.
Funds have also been secured from private, and non-profit organisations.
Special mention must be made of OXFAM’s sponsorship towards
the research and publication of Women in Caribbean History. Postgraduate
students, Janet Anderson, Aleric Josephs and Dorothy Pennant worked
as research assistants on this project.
We are delighted to announce that the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports
and Education (CHASE) Fund has agreed to provide (JA)$1.1 million
to support our publication in book and CD form, “The Jamaican
Black Middle Class of the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries”.
The publication will be an expansion of the current exhibition on
tour across the island, to 50 biographical profiles and photographic
images, which we hope to launch later in the year.
Funding applications have also been made for the Downtown, Kingston
project, for much needed oral history equipment and a Research Fellow
to the SHP.
