The UWI Modifies Matriculation in Response to COVID-19

Following the quarterly meeting of its Board for Undergraduate Studies (BUS) on Tuesday May 19, 2020, The University of the West Indies (The UWI), formally announces its decision to modify the matriculation requirements specific to academic year 2020/2021.
Professor Densil A. Williams is the new Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal at The UWI Five Islands

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Densil A. Williams as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of its Five Islands Campus, located in Antigua and Barbuda. His appointment was approved by the University Council at its meeting on May 13 and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has indicated its keenness to work with Professor Williams in advancing the Five Islands Campus as a key objective within The UWI’s strategic plan. His appointment is for a period of three years, commencing the 2020/2021 academic year and he has accepted the position in addition to his current portfolio as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic, Industry Partnerships and Planning at The UWI.
Two UWI Professors earn title of "Professor Emeritus

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce that it has approved recommendations to confer the title of ‘Emeritus’ on Professor of Supramolecular Chemistry, Ishenkumba Kahwa and Professor of Management Information Systems Evan W. Duggan.
The ‘Emeritus’ designation generally allows former office-holders of The UWI to retain their titles of ‘Professor’ after retirement.

Ambassador Dr. Richard Bernal now President of Royal Commonwealth Society - Jamaica Branch

Ambassador Dr. Richard L. Bernal O.J., Pro-Vice Chancellor, Global Affairs is now the President of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Jamaica Branch. He was elected at the annual general meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2020. He succeeds the late Sir Edward Zacca, former Chief Justice of Jamaica.
The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) is an education charity promoting international understanding, particularly among young people through a range of events and projects.

UWI’s Leadership gives Percentage of Salaries to Student Fund.

The senior executive leadership of The University of the West Indies (The UWI)—the Vice-Chancellor, Campus Principals, Pro Vice-Chancellors, University Bursar and University Registrar—have all committed to allocating a percentage of their salaries for the next three months towards a student hardship fund. The aim of the fund is to promote equity of access for all students as well as provide much needed additional counselling services during this time.

The UWI Mona mourns the passing of Mr. Peter Gayle

The UWI Mona Campus is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Peter Gayle. Mr. Gayle was the Principal Scientific Officer at The UWI’s Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory (DBML). He joined The UWI family in 1985 and remained with us until the time of his passing.
Enhanced Security Protocol at The UWI Mona Campus

In keeping with the Covid -19 protocol established by the Government of Jamaica, The UWI Mona Campus has suspended most face to face activities on campus including teaching, meetings and gatherings with more than ten persons, thus reducing daily traffic on the campus. The daily campus traffic/population has also been significantly reduced as a number of staff are working remotely and most students residing in the Halls have returned home. This reduced traffic increases the risk of theft and other criminal acts on the campus.
