The UWI congratulates Dr Olivene Burke and Dr Shirin Haque who were named the Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards Excellence Laureates for 2020. Dr Burke was recognized for excellence in Public & Civic Contributions and; Dr Haque for Excellence in Science &Technology.

Professor V. Eudine Barriteau, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Cave Hill Campus of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has been awarded Barbados’ highest national honour – the Order of the Freedom of Barbados. She was among three who headed this year’s list of National Honourees to mark the 53^rd anniversary of independence of Barbados.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence, one of the annual highlights of The University of the West Indies' (The UWI) calendar, is set for October 16, 2019. The prestigious ceremony takes place at The UWI Cave Hill Campus this year. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles will preside over the event, presenting academic, senior administrative, and professional staff with awards for excellence in teaching, research, service to the university community, and public service, or a combination of areas for 2018/2019.

The University of the West Indies, Mona has appointed Professor Lorna Goodison as Writer-in-Residence for Semester 1 of the 2019/2020 academic year. Professor Goodison is currently the Poet Laureate of Jamaica and is also the recipient of an honorary degree from The UWI. As Writer-in-Residence, Professor Goodison will mentor aspiring writers at The UWI, conduct creative writing workshops and lecture in a variety of classes offered in the Department of Literatures in English.

On September 19, 2019, The UWI Alumni Relations and Alumni Chapters and the Alumni Relations arm of the Institutional Advancement Division (IAD-AR) will launch their partnership with YoPro Global Foundation on the first Soft & Life Skills series for students and alumni across all campuses Caribbean-wide.

Prof. Lloyd Waller

Professor Lloyd Waller has served as Head of the Department of Government, Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI Mona Campus, since 2013 and Director of the Centre for Leadership and Governance at the campus since 2011.

Professor Lawrence Ojo Bamikole is a philosopher, respected for his ability to creatively synthesise ideas showing how philosophy is down to earth and makes a radical difference in daily life. He served as a Senior Lecturer in philosophy at The UWI’s Mona Campus from 2002 to 2007 and then from 2010.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the recent promotion of Thejani Rupika Delgoda to the rank of Professor. 
 
Thejani Rupika Delgoda is Professor of Biochemical Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy, and the Director of the Natural Products Institute in the Faculty of Science and Technology at The UWI Mona.
