UWI Students saluted for bravery in helping to combat COVID-19

Over 400 regional students at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus have been hailed as heroes for their courageous fieldwork at the height of a COVID-19 resurgence in Barbados earlier this year.
In February, the students signed up for the Community Evaluation and Testing Project, popularly known as Operation Seek and Save; a data gathering exercise organised by the Government of Barbados and Cave Hill Campus to help stem a deadly second wave of the pandemic, and also contain the growing spread of dengue fever.

Libraries across The UWI will receive a boost in the University’s e-information portal, UWIlinC, starting this week with the introduction of a New User Interface (NUI) on Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
The new UWIlinC interface is critical for The UWI system, as it moves towards harmonising its operations within the context of an institution-wide digital transformation exercise expected to bring foundational changes to how the University delivers information resources, services and value to all customers.

Professor Landis’ appointment was confirmed at the annual business meeting of its University Council on April 30. The appointment was approved by the University Council, following a recommendation from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.

With the global gaming industry valued at USD 159 billion in 2020 and expected to grow in 2021, The University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus will explore the business of e-Sports in the next edition of its Public Advocacy Series. The May virtual event, which takes place on Monday May 17, will feature two international industry leaders, Dr. Melita Moore and Mr. Eric Elder.
Dr. Melita Moore is a quadruple board certified physician and an international leader on health and wellness for gamers in the field of eSports Medicine. She is the CEO/Founder of Levels Unlocked Enterprises, a brand, marketing and communications firm focused on esports, sports and health.
