Rhoda Reddock is Professor and Head of the Centre
for Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West
Indies, St. Augustine campus. She has a doctorate in Applied Social
Sciences from The University of Amsterdam and is an activist in
the Caribbean Women’s movement and founding member of the
Caribbean Association for Feminist Research and Action (CAFRA).
She has numerous publications (single-authored and edited collections)
including Women, Labour and Politics in Trinidad and Tobago: A
History, Zed Books, 1994 which was named a CHOICE Outstanding
Academic Book for 1996; Ethnic Minorities in Caribbean Society,
ISER, 1998; Plantation Women: International Experiences, Berg,
1998 co-edited with Shobhita Jain and most recently, Caribbean
Sociology: Introductory Readings co-edited with Christine Barrow,
Ian Randle Publishers, 2001. Her research interests include -
Caribbean Women’s History, Race/Ethnicity, Class and Gender
and Masculinities and Sexualities. In 2001 Prof. Reddock received
the 7th Triennial CARICOM Award for Women and the 2001 UWI Vice
Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research,
Outreach and Administration.
