Test Day

Before the test (0800 – 0730)
  • Arrive at the exam venue by 0730 for registration.
  • Present your ID to the invigilator at the registration desk to mark your attendance.
  • Visit the restrooms before the start of the exam as you will not be given a toilet break during the test.  The time allotted for the test will not be extended to facilitate your toilet breaks.
  • Deposit all your belongings including mobile phones at the designated baggage area. You are only allowed your ID on your desk.  All writing materials will be provided.   
  • Be escorted by an invigilator to your designated seat.

The exam will begin at 9.00a.m and During the test (9:00 – 12:30) late candidates are not allowed to enter the test room and the exam fee is forfeited.

During the test (0900 – 1200) You must:
  • Listen carefully to the Moderator and follow the instructions.
  • Tell the Invigilator at once if you think you have not been given the right question paper, or if the question paper is incomplete or illegible.
  • Raise your hand to attract attention if you are in doubt about what you should do. An invigilator will assist you.
  • Do not lend anything to, or borrow anything from 
  • Do not speak to any other candidate during the test.
  • Expect random ID checks during the timed portion of the test.

The Moderator begins reading the instructions at exactly 0900. Late candidates are not allowed to enter the test and the exam fee is forfeited.

NOTE: Parking is usually available at or near test venues

but the Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy will not be responsible for any parking related fees or damage to property which candidates incur.

The speaking test You must:

Check the Speaking Test details sent to you via email as well as on your desk label in the test room.

  • Arrive at the speaking venue 30 minutes before your scheduled interview time.
  • Bring your ID.
  • Register with the invigilator when you arrive. Go to the waiting area until the invigilator calls you for your interview.
  • Deposit your baggage and cell phones with invigilator. You must only take your ID inside the interview room.
  • The speaking test lasts between 11 to 15 minutes.
  • Leave the test venue immediately after your interview. Do not talk to waiting candidates.

CANDIDATE IDENTITY VERIFICATION

Please be advised that IELTS is enhancing its security systems in order to keep pace with evolving technology. IELTS is increasing its level of security and will capture a photograph of candidates and this will be used on the Test Report Form (TRF). The new systems have been piloted around the world, and all centres worldwide have been using them since 2012.
