We recently upgraded from PeopleSoft 7.02 to People Soft 8SP1. One of the main advantages of this new version is that People Soft can now be accessed via a web browser instead of just a Windows client. To ensure smooth deployment of this version, MITS worked in partnership with the power users, and conducted workshops to introduce existing users to the new system.
In keeping with our mandate to maximize PeopleSoft's utility, MITS has embarked on a number of exciting, new projects. Some of these include Self Service, Business Process Design and Workflow and Management Reporting.
Self Service is a module in PeopleSoft that allows staff to view and modify some of their own data in the system. Each user has access to ONLY his records and only specific information. Therefore, PeopleSoft will no longer be viewed as simply an administrative tool, but a tool that all staff can utilize. MITS is currently rolling this out to the wider staff community.
Business Process Design is a PeopleSoft tool that seeks to streamline work. Workflow ensures that as a job is passed between staff members, notifications are sent to relevant parties informing them of the waiting job. These notifications can be in the form of e-mails or work lists. The implementation of this project should shorten the cycle time for processing transactions and reduce paper costs.
In all systems, reporting plays a critical role in analyzing trends and determining the way forward. Management Reporting is therefore also one of the crucial projects that we are working on.
