Getting Connected to the Internet
Dial Up Services – Internet services
General Information
The University of the West Indies has a high-speed dial up Internet Services, which is referred to as the UWIMonaNet. There are currently ninety-six (96) digital 56 Kbps lines. The UWIMonaNet dial-up number is 980-7500 within Kingston and St. Andrew. For other parishes it is 1-980-7500
To access the internet through UWIMonaNet dial-up procedures, the students first have to obtain a dial-up account. To get this account the students should pay a non-refundable fee of J$1000.00 (per semester) to the bursary cashier. They will receive a receipt which they should then take to MITS along with their UWI identification card. A copy of the receipt is kept on file at MITS and a dial-up account which includes username and password is issued. This account is valid for the academic year. In the new academic year the process restarts. You must have financial clearance and academic approval before applying for the service and paying for the account.
For staff members, the dial-up account is free but to activate this account service staff members are required to visit the MITS Helpdesk with their UWI staff identification card.
If you forget your password you will have to visit MITS with your UWI identification card to have it reset. Please note that users need to appear in person to validate their identity.
