The Department of Basic Medical Sciences
offers research programmes leading to Master of Philosophy (M.Phil)
and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degrees in:
Anatomy, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacology
and Physiology
Normally, all students register for an M.Phil Degree, but after
one year it is possible to transfer to a Ph.D. registration. Transfer
involves presentation of an upgrade seminar, judged by an Assessment
Committee, constituted as prescribed by the regulations of the School
for Graduate Studies and Research. The Committee's report and recommendation
has to be approved by the Board.
The M.Phil Degree normally takes a minimum of two years of research
on a full time basis. A Ph.D. Degree usually takes a minimun of
three years. Both awards are based on submission of a thesis, plus
a viva voce examination for the Ph.D. Degree only.
