The Biotechnology Centre at The UWI, Mona Campus has discovered the presence of anti-cancer properties in purple yams, and the yam extract is currently being considered for the award of a US patent. Dr Dennis Bailey made the discovery while conducting doctoral studies on indigenous varieties of yams cultivated in Jamaica and provides details in this week’s programme.
