The UWI and Mexican Embassy in Jamaica Partner  on Innovative Bilingual Virtual Book LaunchThe University of the West Indies (The UWI) and the Mexican Embassy in Jamaica partnered in October for an innovative bilingual book launch of Afro-Mexican Constructions of Diaspora, Gender, Identity and Nation authored by Professor Paulette Ramsay of The UWI’s Mona Campus. Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Juan José González Mijares, who is fully supportive of The UWI multilingualism strategy, chaired the proceedings streamed via UWItv.

From Reputation to Revenue

The UWI, CDB and EU partners launch landmark State of the Caribbean Climate Report

A report which provides critical analysis and discussion on Caribbean climate, variability and trends and projections was released by The University of the West Indies (The UWI) on Monday, November 23, 2020. The Report was produced with grant funding from the ACP-EU-CDB Natural Disaster Risk Management in CARIFORUM Countries programme (NDRM), which is funded by the European Union and managed by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

UWI pursues Global Online Campus

The next phase of the implementation of The UWI’s Triple A Strategy (Strategic Plan 2017-2022) focuses on the development of a new Global Online Campus, leveraging the high reputation of the regional university. This new Global Online Campus will build capacity and generate revenue as a core part of the University’s financial future.

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has continued to thrive and advance new strategies for its future. Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of the regional university, credits this success to its staff who are not just “fine and bright, but caring, committed and courageous.”

On November 19, The UWI honoured twelve outstanding academics, senior administrative staff and units at its annual Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence. The prestigious awards ceremony pivoted to a completely virtual event this year, leveraging the technology of UWItv to deliver an interactive ceremony that streamed celebrations from the awardees’ homes, and was hosted by Dr. Maurice D. Smith, University Registrar.
