UWI and Missouri State sign MOU

Research to begin investigating how climate and other factors affect livelihoods and wellbeing

Continuing its global strategy of critical collaboration and partnerships with world class universities, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Missouri State University (MSU) in the US to promote Sustainable Community Development, education and research.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Deika as an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Development (The ISD). Ms Morrison, whose appointment is initially for a period of one year, from October 12, 2020 to October 11, 2021 will focus her fellowship on strengthening the research capacity of the Institute.

14 to receive honorary doctorates at The UWI's 2020 Graduation ceremonies

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) will confer 14 honorary degrees at its 2020 graduation ceremonies. The ceremonies, which are scheduled to take place from January 11–16, 2021, in a mix of blended, virtual formats, will celebrate a graduating class of approximately 8500 students across the region. In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, The UWI graduations will retain the tradition of recognising Caribbean excellence through the conferral of honorary degrees awarded for a wide variety of fields such as music, theatre, public service, medicine, agricultural science and entrepreneurship among others.

20th Annual Frank Worrell Memorial Lecture features Cricket West Indies' President, Ricky Skerritt

President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Ricky Skerritt will share his plans for getting better results on the field of play from the region’s cricketers, when he delivers this year’s annual Frank Worrell Memorial lecture. He will address the topic ‘Reforming Cricket West Indies for Improved On-field Results’ and will engage sport fans in a live question and answer session afterwards.

Sterling and Stewart shine at The UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year Awards 2020

The strategic decision by The University of the West Indies (The UWI) to establish a Faculty of Sport is bearing fruit. The University’s decision, led by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, to bring sport into the Triple A paradigm of its 2017-2022 strategic plan, has brought the rich in talent youth of the region to the fore. Following the still memorable Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) regional Super 50 tournament win, the latest grand display of student athlete talent came on Wednesday, November 4, as the Vice-Chancellor’s Sports Awards celebrated the region’s youth in multiple sport disciplines.

Mona School of Business and Management launches Virtual Student Entrepreneurship Competition

As the pandemic reshapes various industries, the need for innovative entrepreneurs with agile skills has never been more critical. The Vincent HoSang Entrepreneurship Programme (VHEP) through the annual UWI Venture Competition aims to  prepare the next generation of leaders for an uncertain, rapidly changing world through the adoption of non-traditional business education and practices.
