International Reggae Day Reggae Symposium at UWI, Mona
The Reggae Studies Unit, The University of the West Indies, Mona hosts an International Reggae Day Reggae Symposium, at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 6 pm. The Symposium is titled, “Celebrating 40 years of Reggae Music: Mapping the Evolution of the Genre since its Inception”.
Regional Focus on Child Rearing Practices in the Caribbean Regional Caribbean
Twenty (20) Caribbean and international researchers in Early Childhood Development (ECD) will meet with selected policy and programme persons from the region at a regional “Learning Event” in St. Kitts-Nevis from June 23 -26, 2008. The “Learning Event,” is being held under the theme “Child Rearing in the Caribbean 2: Early Learning” and is facilitated by the Caribbean Child Support Initiative’s Learning Community Programme (LCP).
Application for MAs in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change and Communication Studies Still Open
The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), is accepting applications for its Master of Arts in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change and Master of Arts in Communication Studies.
Both are taught masters degree programmes, with the courses delivered and examined by an expert team, including well-known regional and international scholars in their fields.
Developing Information Literacy Skills and Programmes
The Department of Library and Information Studies at The University of the West Indies, Mona in collaboration with UNESCO’s Information for All Programme (IFAP) hosted a three day workshop recently. The workshop was aimed at introducing librarians from the Caribbean region to techniques for developing information literacy skills and programmes.
Event Planning and Management Course at UWI, Mona
The Reggae Studies Unit and The Institute for Hospitality and Tourism at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona offers a course in Event Planning and Management from July 11-12, 2008 from 9am to 3:30 pm daily at the Multifunctional Room of the Main Library, UWI, Mona.
Inaugural Lecture-Professor Phyllis Coates-Beckford
Dr. Phyllis Coates-Beckford, Professor of Plant Pathology will deliver her inaugural professorial lecture on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 1 pm at the New Chemistry Lecture Theatre (Chem 5). Her lecture is titled ‘The Value of Being a Hybrid: The Benefits of Interdisciplinary Knowledge in the Study of a Slow Decline of Breadfruit.”
Ten days and Counting to ACS Crossroads Conference 2008
With only ten days to go before the over 600 participants from 68 countries across the world congregate at the University of the West Indies, Mona for the 2008 ACS Crossroads Conference the planning and organizing of the event is underway. The seventh staging of the Association of Cultural Studies (ACS) Conference represents the first time that such a cultural and academic encounter of its kind has been hosted in the Caribbean.
UWI Convocation Week
The University of the West Indies 60th anniversary will climax during mid July at Mona as the University marks its anniversary with a Convocation Week. The week of celebration begins with the Chancellor’s Reception at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 6:30 pm and is followed by several activities on Sunday, July 13, 2008 namely a Golf Tournament at 7 am, then an Inter Faith Thanksgiving Service at the UWI Chapel at 9 am, Brunch at the Senior Common Room at 11 am and "Jazz Goes to UWI" at 7 pm.
Professor Eric Cruickshank Memorial Lecture
The Department of Medicine at The University of the West Indies, Mona in celebration of the university’s 60th anniversary hosts the Professor Eric Cruickshank Memorial Lecture. The lecture takes place on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 5 pm at the Main Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Sir George Allyene, Chancellor of The University of the West Indies will deliver the lecture.
CUSAC Seminar and Meeting
The University of the West Indies (UWI), in collaboration with University of Ghana, will host the 2008 Commonwealth Universities Study Abroad Consortium (CUSAC) members' meeting and seminar at the UWI, Mona Campus. The seminar is being held under the theme “Quality and Equivalence: Issues in Education Abroad” at the Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre, Mona Campus from June19-20, 2008. Meetings for CUSAC member institutions are scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2008.
