Study Skills Workshop at the University Level
The Counselling Service of the University Health Centre is offering a series of university level study skills workshops every Thursday from September 15 to October 20, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre in the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
Topics include “Assessing your Learning Styles”, “Improving Your Note taking Skills”, “Time and Stress Management”, “Improving Your Memory and Concentration” and “Test taking skills”.
UWI Quality Leadership and Mentorship Programmes
All applicants for the UWI Quality Leadership Programme are to report to the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre on Thursday September 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.
Levels 2-3 students are invited to apply for participation in the 2005/2006 Mentorship Programme.
2005 Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony
The UWI Mona’s Annual Matriculation and Welcome Ceremony for all new students will be held on Thursday, September 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. Students are required to assemble on the lawn facing the Undercroft by 2:15 p.m. for the signing of the Matriculation Register at 2:30 p.m..
July-At-The-UWI 2005
The 9th July-at-the-UWI Programme organised by the Special International Group Programmes Office of Administration and Special Initiatives was recently held at the Mona Campus. The programme was designed to expose pre-university children between the ages 12 to 17 years to the University of the West Indies. They were also exposed to the science and culture of the countries which contribute to the UWI.
Sunday Morning Service at UWI Chapel resumes
The Sunday Service at the UWI Chapel resumed on September 4, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. Please note that all students and staff are especially invited to attend the Welcome Service for new students and staff, which will take place on Sunday September 11 at 9:00 a.m.
University Consortium of Small Island States
The UWI recently hosted a three-day meeting for small island states universities, entitled, “University Consortium of Small Island States” (SIDS). This was held in the Council Room on the Mona Campus from August 29-31, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Participating universities included the University of the West Indies, the University of South Pacific, the University of Mauritius, the University of Malta, and the University of the Virgin Islands.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. E. Nigel Harris, as well as representatives and academic experts in the related subject areas were present.
West Indian Medical Journal now available
The current issue of the West Indian Medical Journal is now available at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Mona. It contains proceedings of the Ophthalmological Society of the West Indies 16th Annual Congress which was held in the Bahamas from July 6-9. Articles include Lifestyle Management, Ethics in Ophthalmology, Refractive Surgery/Cataract, Glaucoma, Surgical Ophthalmology, among many others.

Effective July 1, 2005, Dr. Dameon Black will serve as Acting President of the Jamaica Theological Seminary.
Gleaner Public Editors’ Forum
The Faculty of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with the Gleaner Company will be hosting the next in the series of Gleaner Public Editors’ Forum focussing on health issues this Wednesday, August 31, at 6:00 p.m., at the Main Medical Lecture Theatre, UWI.
Under the theme, “Passive Women, Active Men: Sex, Gender and HIV/Aids”, the panellists will explore how gender, culture, attitudes and sexual behaviour impact the spread of HIV/Aids in Jamaica.
