Marlene Hamilton, a graduate of the UWI, whose
staff she joined in 1973 as a lecturer attached to the Faculty
of Education, and where she also served, at various times, as
Head of the Department of Educational Studies and Dean of the
Faculty, is Pro-Vice Chancellor of the UWI - the first woman to
be appointed at this level. Her University-wide responsibilities
cover Administration and Special Initiatives, although she has
held a number of other portfolios, and also served as Deputy Principal
of the Mona Campus between 1991 and July 1996. Prof. Hamilton’s
has published widely in her research areas, which include Educational
and Social Psychology, Science Education and Gender Studies. She
is a member of several professional bodies and she has also served
on a number of public service committees, including the Government
of Jamaica’s Public Services Commission. Prof. Hamilton
was awarded the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) for service
in the field of Tertiary Education by the Jamaica Government in
2002.
