THEME: Building the Road to Indepence for with DisabilitiesIndependence is the ability to function in a given area without depending upon another's help. For children with physical, emotional and other disabilities and special needs, the journey to independence is much harder, and for most unachievable without the right encouragement, support and an enabling environment. Consequently, contributions these can can ultimately can make to enhance themselves and their communities are lost as they become socially isolated.This year, as Jamaica celebrates its golden anniversary of independence, the Nathan Ebanks Foundation will on April 11-14, 2012 mount its 6th Annual Special Needs Conference.OverviewThis year, the conference will feature two major components: 1. MOVE (Mobility Opportunities via Education) Basic Providers Training ~ April 11-13, 2012; and 2. Special Needs Needs Expo ~ April 13 & 14, 2012 This Conference & Expo have been uniquely created and shaped to deliver the following objectives: 1. Bring greater awareness to the characteristics of population of children with disabilities, ageing and the changes that their daily living and educational needs 2. Create a common space for stakeholders to share their experiences and knowledge and provide practical solutions towards creating an enabling environment for the children and adults and their families. 3. Highlight the speciality resources, products and services which are currently available in Jamaica and internationally 4. Showcase pharmaceutical, medical, special education and other speciality resources and the companies offering these products and services. 5. Promote health, wellness, good nutrition, recreation and healthy lifestylesWho Should Attend?Who should attend the above MOVE TrainingsMOVE is based on a team approach. Typically, participants include parents, guardians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, educators, program directors, paraprofessionals, administrators, nursing staff and/or any other personnel deemed appropriate to attend.MOVE International trains primarily special education teachers, adapted physical education teachers, physical and occupational therapists, and adult programming professionals to become certified MOVE International Trainers (MITs) authorized to teach the MOVE Basic.For details on this training, including cost and how to register, please contact us by email at info@nathanshelpinghandsfoundation.org or by telephone at 876 756 3685 or 876 857 4425.
