Launch of School of Education Centre for the Assessment and Treatment of Exceptionalities (SOCATE)

The School of Education, University of the West Indies, Mona is launching School of Education Centre for the Assessment and Treatment of Exceptionalities on March 21 at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona. This three year project is funded by CHASE fund, which involves a collaboration between SOCATE and early childhood institutions. The objectives include:

• Identifying students with special needs
• Assist parents and teachers to interpret assessment results
• Use available data on students to develop education intervention plans
• Train pre-service and in-service teachers to identify, for referral, students who appear to have exceptional needs (including the gifted and talented)
