This class is designed as an introduction to modern
palaeontological methods and research as well as an
overview of the most important invertebrate fossil groups.
The practical part of the course will first cover the
morphology of groups within the major phyla. Later on
in the semester, we will do some basic measuring, statistical
and phylogenetic analyses.
The lecture portion of the course is designed to introduce
the most important topics in palaeobiology. We'll look
at quantitative approaches to problems in palaeontology
and at the application of palaeontologic data to research
in geology and evolutionary biology.
