The UWI announces title of ‘Chancellor Emeritus’ for Sir George Alleyne

At a meeting of its Finance and General Purpose Committee (F&GPC) on October 30, 2017, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) conferred the title of ‘Chancellor Emeritus’ on former Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne.
Emeritus is a designation given to the former holder of an office, who having retired is allowed to retain the title, for example a University Professor.
The UWI launches LUMIN Consulting

The International Scientific Committee (ISC) of the Slave Route Project now has a new UWI representative. Dr. Sonjah Stanley Niaah follows in the footsteps of Prof. The Hon. Rex Nettleford who helped to establish the Project, and Prof. Sir Hilary McDonald Beckles who is a member.
UWI Students benefit from Huawei Seeds for the Future Programme

Three students from the Faculty of Science & Technology at The University of the West Indies, UWI) Mona Campus benefitted from an all-expenses paid two-week cultural and work experience trip to China, under a global social responsibility initiative- Seeds for the Future - spearheaded by Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider.
The students Loya Haughton, Department of Computing, Camille Beckford, Mona School of Engineering, and Anthony Bryan, Department of Physics, were attached to Huawei’s headquarters, and gained hands-on experience in ICT technologies, and an introduction to Chinese culture and language.
Vincent HoSang Family Foundation donates US$10,000 to The UWI’s Hurricane Relief Effort

The Vincent HoSang Family Foundation has donated US$10,000 to the fundraising efforts spearheaded by The University of the West Indies (The UWI) to support Caribbean islands affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria. The donation was made through the University’s newly established, Caribbean Emergency Management Association (CEMA). CEMA is a joint fundraising organization between The UWI and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

NIGEL LOGAN APPOINTED BURSAR AT THE UWI, MONA

The University of the West Indies, Mona is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Nigel Logan as Bursar, with effect from September 18, 2017.
Mr Logan is a qualified Chartered Accountant having successfully completed the ACCA Exams in 1995 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ). He has worked in financial management and general management at the highest level in the banking and public sectors for 17 years, and also occupied various Senior Management positions for over 19 years in both the public and private sectors.
