UWI Alumni Eligible for 4 Million Euro of Scholarship Funding Upon Meeting February 15 Application Deadline

The University of the West Indies has joined the University of Porto, Portugal in a partnership with the European Commission that will fund graduate studies in countries such as Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
 

World Bank “Open Data Evangelist” for Slashroots Conference at UWI, Mona

 
World Bank Open Data evangelist, Dr. Tariq Khokhar will deliver the keynote address at the Opening Plenary of the Mona School of Business-hosted SlashRoots-Caribbean Open Data Conference, which is being presented under the theme, “Developing the Caribbean.”  Describing his interests as being “where technology, transparency, poverty and data meet”, Dr. Khokhar will speak on the topic: “Open Data: The New Revolution”. The Conference which takes place January 26-27, in the Faculty of Law building at the Mona campus, opens on the first day of the University of the West Indies’ “Research Day.”  
 

UWI Research Days 2012 to Examine Health and Wellness Research

 
Health and Wellness will be the focus as the University of the West Indies hosts its 2012 Research Days activities on January 26 and 27 on the Mona Campus. Now in its 13th year, the annual forum provides an opportunity for dialogue between researchers and students, potential investors/research collaborators, business leaders and policy makers locally, regionally and internationally.
 

UWI, Mona Western Jamaica Campus Hosts First International Conference Themed, "Dying to be Beautiful"

The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Medical Sciences, at the University of the West Indies, Mona will be hosting the first joint International Conference on the theme ‘Dying to be Beautiful? Body Image, Eating Behaviours and Health in the Caribbean.’ The Conference is scheduled for January 13-15, 2012 at the UWI Mona’s Western Jamaica Campus in Montego Bay. Local, regional and international speakers and participants have been invited to share and discuss strategies for treating issues related to health and culture, such as skin bleaching, obesity and eating disorders. 
 
 

UWI Faculties of Social Sciences Host Cross Campus Conference

 
The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus will host the third Cross Campus Conference of the Faculties of Social Sciences on January 16-18, 2012 under the theme: The Strategic Plan and the Social Sciences: Making it better for 2012-2017. The conference starts at 8:30am or 9:00am each day with all plenary sessions slated for the Social Sciences Lecturer Theatre (SSLT).
 

UWI Invites Feedback from its External Stakeholders

 
The University of the West Indies is well into the process of development for its 2012-2017 strategic plan and is making a renewed call to its external stakeholders to contribute to the initiative. The new strategic plan will build on some of the successes and deliverables of the current strategic plan: Strategic Transformation for Relevance, Impact, Distinctiveness and Excellence (STRIDE 2007-2012); it is anticipated that the process will include a review of the regional institution’s mission, vision and values, strategic analysis of the UWI’s environment and determining the top strategic shifts which The UWI must make in order to maintain its position as the leader in Caribbean higher education and research.
 

UWI, Mona Heads of to “Worlds” to Repeat Outstanding Performance

 
The University of the West Indies, Mona Debating team heads to the 32nd World Universities Debating Championships being held in De La Salle University in Manila, the Philippines from December 27, 2011 to January 4, 2012. This is the biggest event on the international debating calendar and is often referred to as the “Olympics” of debating. Hundreds of team will compete from over fifty institutions from more than forty countries on all five continents.
 

MSB's Telecommunications Policy and Technology Management Cops High Ranking Among Global Masters Programmes

The UWI's masters degree programme in Telecommunications Policy and Technology Management (TPM) offered by the Mona School of Business, has been rated among the top 200 best masters degree programmes in the world in the Engineering and Project Management Category, from among 12,000 Masters and MBA Programmes in the top 1,000 Business Schools globally. 
 
The TPM Masters received this high ranking from Eduniversal International Scientific Committee, based in France. The global academic adjudicating organization conducted and published its conclusions in a report entitled “Best Masters and MBA Programmes Worldwide for 2011”. It ranked the TPM Masters among the top 200 programmes in the world in the Engineering and Project Management category.  

MSB Appoints Minna Israel as Distinguished Business Fellow

Mona School of Business, University of the West Indies, (MSB, UWI) recently announced the appointment of Minna Israel as Distinguished Business Fellow, effective March 1, 2012.
 
In announcing her appointment, principal of the UWI, Mona campus, Professor Gordon Shirley, said: “Miss Israel will be working with the Executive Director, Professor Evan Duggan, to further accelerate the transformation of the institution into a genuinely world-class Business School.”
 
Among the specific activities in which Ms. Israel will be engaged are working with the Executive Director and his team on developing the executive management development component of the Programme targeted at the Business Community in the Northern Caribbean.  
 

Dr. John Bewaji Promoted to Professor

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. John  Ayotunde (Tunde) Isola Bewaji, Senior Lecturer Department of Language Linguistics and Philosophy, in the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Mona Campus to the rank of Professor.
