Guidelines for Tertiary Students On Influenza A (H1N1)
Reduce the spread of Influenza A (H1N1)
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for about 20 seconds
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (or a shirt sleeve or elbow if no tissue is available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Try to avoid close contact with persons who have flu like symptoms.
- Do not attend classes if you have flu-like symptoms.
- Stay home if you feel sick. Expect sick employees to be out for about 3 to 5 days in most cases, even if antiviral medications are used.
- Workers who appear to have an influenza-like illness upon arrival or become ill during the day be promptly separated from other workers and be advised to go home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8° C] or greater), or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications.

A person gets influenza by:
- Breathing in the virus when an infected person coughs or sneezes
- Contact with objects that have been recently touched by an infected person. eg. Door knobs, telephones.
INFLUENZA A (H1N1):
- Fever
- headache
- Cough
- Sore Throat
- Joint pains/Muscle aches
- Runny & Stuffy nose
SEVERE SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:
- Vomiting
- Difficulty breatning
- Chest pains
