One of Wilfred Chan's major contributions to the Department and the University was the Mona Symposium Series. One of his greatest contribution was to the development of a very productive research school. His work on elucidation of natural product structures was outstanding. Soon after the end of Chan's time as Head of Department at Mona, he moved to St. Augustine campus to enhance research activities there and to help develop their Chemistry Department. He later became Head of Department there. Prof. Helen Jacobs, the current Head of Department, was Wilfred Chan's student.
